About Ecuador

Series 01.

When you visit the Galapagos Islands, one thousand kilometres off of the coast of Ecuador in South Amercia, you can see why this place is so famously known as the “Enchanted” Galapagos Islands.  It is without doubt one of the most pristine places on the planet!!! Daniel (filming), Jen and her sister, Bev, are on quite an adventure.

Protected as a marine national park in 1957, the Galapagos Islands were made famous after scientist Charles Darwin visited here...and was inspired to come up with his theory of evolution.  Nowhere else in the world is the evolution of species demonstrated with such clarity as here, and as a result of the extreme isolation of the islands, nearly a quarter of the species are found only here.  Wildlife come right up to you with no fear.  Everywhere you look are sea lions, iguanas, blue-footed boobies...we even met Lonesome George, the giant tortoise!

The Galapagos Islands are an archipelago of volcanic islands distributed around the equator in the Pacific Ocean, 972 km west of continental Ecuador, of which they are a part. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site.  The Galapagos Islands and the surrounding waters form an Ecuadorian province, a national park, and a biological marine reserve. The islands have a population of around 23,000.

From one mind blowing place to another, we then head to the Amazon - the biggest rainforest in the world that spans across 7 countries.  The Amazon is home to over 1000 creatures and a third of the world's birds live here...oh...and not forgetting the 30 million insects that can be found here - so leave your creepy crawly fears at home!

High up in the treetops we see troops of common squirrel monkeys following the Capuchin monkeys...and in the river, we swim with piranhas!!!!!!!

But it’s not only the jungle we have fallen in love with...you should see the mud wrestle we found ourselves in with the local kids!!!
